A compact cup for a short, strong coffee, glazed in Pink Peony. This Espresso Cup is thrown on the wheel in my home studio in Congleton, Cheshire, with a traditional thumb and finger indent built into the body for a comfortable, secure grip. Once thrown, it's turned and finished by hand the next day, then dried, bisque fired, glazed, and fired again before it's ready to use.
Pink Peony is a deep, unapologetic pink brought back down to earth by a soft sand base and small brown flecks in the clay body — named for the peonies that flower for about a fortnight and are worth the wait.
Sized for a proper espresso
- Approx. 6.5cm tall, 6.5cm wide
- Holds up to 100ml — perfect for a single or double espresso
- Dishwasher and microwave safe — avoid the oven, grill, hob and open flame
This is the exact cup shown in the photos, not a similar one, since every piece is thrown and glazed entirely by hand, small differences in shape, glaze movement and colour are part of its unique character. Once it's gone, it's gone.

Small differences in shape, glaze movement, colour and texture are part of each piece's unique character. An unglazed, sanded base is normal, and fine crazing may appear over years of use — a natural trait of glazed stoneware.
